Sophomore year, college. I had just moved out of the dorms into an on-campus apartment, with its own kitchen! At this point, I was ecstatic to eat anything else that wasn't white rice (I was never really a fan of packaged ramen).I looked up a recipe for chicken fajitas and went to the grocery store to gather all the ingredients. I dropped the ingredients in the skillet, all at once, the intoxicating aroma of the peppers and onions sautéeing in the skillet filled my nostrils. It was almost overwhelming, so lively and bright! I didn't know I was capable of making food this delicous, but I knew that I wanted more.
I invite you to take a look at my menu of favorite dishes!
My mother always wanted to take pictures while I was growing up. "Ok now let's take one in front of the fountain" "Get a little closer to your sister" "Use your good smile Mark, you have such a nice smile!" As a kid, I hated taking pictures and I never really understood why we should be taking them ALL THE TIME; but a ten year old doesn't have a sense of how long ten years ago really is. A single photograph has the power to evoke happiness and excitement or elicit a deep sense of despair and empathy. It has the same power to stir anger and divide as it does to unify and placate. Once I started to appreciate this power, I started to appreciate the reason my mother always wanted to take pictures.
